Natural Beauty!

Anita Eckberg sketch from a photo I'm sure I found on Tumblr. It's not a good likeness...Anita's legs are way longer!

Variation on a Theme!

I've gone far, far, far too long without an update. My default sketch fun is always Cheesecake. I see so many awesome Burlesque and pin-up models on my Tumblr that I just have to draw when time allows. Unfortunately I've been rather busy lately with multiple projects. You'll see some of them in the coming months and the rest not long after. In the mean time I hope you'll bear with me (or is it "BARE" with me) while I keep you updated best I can :)

Sweatin' Summer Sketches!

Right...it's well past time for an update. No excuse. I've been drawing. It's been a busy summer. It's been a HOT summer! So here come some sketches worked up on humid summer days with my arm sticking to the drawing table.
Some are based on photos from Tumblr - My Tumblr
Some have been posted on my instagram - My Instagram

More sketches in the coming weeks.
Golly, it's humid...

Vamping Vampirella!

I've been sketching directly in marker lately and for some reason a bunch of those drawings ended up being Vampirella. Maybe because I saw a collection of her old stories or something? Who knows. She's there in my subconscious. I like the giant block of black hair playing against her nearly naked body.

One Hot Summer!

This summer has been incredibly humid here in Toronto. I've been to the pool a couple of times just to try to cool off. I wish I carried business cards with me because sometimes I just want to ask someone I spot to pose for me. Unfortunately I have no business card holder in my swim trunks and I have to settle for taking a mental snapshot and drawing the inspiration later. In this case the "model" was a gorgeous young black woman wearing a white hat and white bikini. The contrast from her skin tone and fabric and the fact that she was wearing a large circular hat made her really easy to remember when I sat down to my drawing table. She was very much a living drawing.

Catwoman!

Technically the inspiration for this drawing is from a dude, based as it is on RuPaul Drag Race contestant Sonique and her gorgeous Catwoman outfit. I would totally draw a comic book with Catwoman wearing this!

Maid of La Mer!

I've been messing about with Illustrator and Vector drawings again lately and worked up a little mermaid image. The beginnings of this drawing came from a cool tattoo I saw on the arm of Burlesquer Dolly Berlin. I drew Dolly at a Dr. Sketchy's session last summer (goodness, how time flies). The hardest part about drawing in Illustrator, I find, is getting some life into the drawing. I'm so used to my ink lines and relying on light and dark that to draw in colour takes a different kind of thinking.

If I ever got a tattoo I'm pretty sure it would be of a mermaid.

Miss Roxi D'Lite!

Mmm, Roxi! Looking to do some warm up drawings one summer day I opened up the homepage of Roxi D'Lite and filled a page with doodles. I've seen Roxi perform a number of times and she never ceases to amaze. I would even use the completely made-up word "BESHMOZZLE".
Just a few short weeks ago, for instance, I saw Roxi at the Toronto Burlesque festival - she performed in a pink latex cat-suit, lounging on a divan, stripping down to her tassels and thong before bathing in a dish of warm milk. I can tell you that afterwards I happened to find myself backstage in the vicinity of Miss D'Lite (okay, I carried her luggage to her car because I am just that sort of gentleman :) and Roxi smelled exactly of vanilla ice cream. I just about melted.

If Roxi D'Lite is performing in a town near you I highly recommend that you check her out. She wasn't The Reigning Queen of Burlesque, Miss Exotic World 2010 for nothin'!

Cold Summer Days!

We're in the middle of another heat wave here in Toronto...all the more reason to draw some frosty snow queens to cool things down. I drew these ladies in Photoshop on my Wacom - all digital. I've been messing around with digital art now, just a little. I still love inking traditionally but I can play with color more when I work on the computer.
Hope you're all having a good summer, or winter if you're on the other side of the World!
best,

Super Best Friends Forever!

Does Batgirl want her own Super Best Friends Forever comic book series?
I LOVE the new Super Best Friends Forever (aka SBFF) DC Nation shorts. Of course, I don't have television so I have to watch the shorts on YouTube (and so can you). They're so adorable! I wasn't familiar with Lauren Faust before (although I knew her designs...I just didn't know who she was). Check out her brilliant Galaxy Girls designs!

I've been sketching the girls, Batgirl mostly, in between drawing jobs. I really want to draw the DC comic book that really, really should be made for the SBFF!

Gaga for Girls!

A few drawings of Lady Gaga from her TELEPHONE music video and sketches of the gorgeous Katherine Piro. I've added costuming and details to the drawings of Katherine -- as it was pointed out to me that she would never wear a heart print bikini :)

Dr. Sketchy's Toronto - Session 83

Dr. Sketchy's Toronto has been delivering some top-notch models this summer! The most recent was Siren. This gal has the most amazing legs, among other stunning assets. I don't even believe I exaggerated when drawing her legs -- they are seriously twice the length of her torso!

Maybe a little exaggeration :) I drew a cleaned up version of the above sketch during one of the breaks. She's a little bit "standard J.Bone girl" and not exactly what I saw onstage.

Two of my favorite drawings of the night. The poses and those amazing boots inspired me greatly.

Obskyura!

Dr. Sketchy's Toronto is back in session! Last night's model was the amazing Obskyura. Here are just a few of my drawings from the night:

La Minouche!

Another member of Les Coquettes, La Minouche, is the hostess of the Coquettes' shows. Though this image is from their Valentine's Day show, I recently sat front row at Les Coquettes' 80s themed extravaganza and got to hold La Minouche's gum while she parlez-ed with the audience. It was minty.

And the 80s show? Their best show yet! Je t'aime Les Coquettes!

Beyoncé Bounce!

I know. I know. It's been a while. I can only say that it's been rather busy lately (check out the kind comments on the Comic Book Resources message board...whew. I blush.) I've been drawing like mad and can't wait to share what I've been working on.

In the meantime -- I saw Beyoncé's video for the new Let's Move campaign.

Encouraging kids to get up and dance is both a brilliant way to by physically active and develop healthy self-esteem. Who cares if you think you stink at dancing. Follow Beyoncé's easy instructions and everyone dance!

Les Coquettes!

Salut! Valentine's weekend I had the incredibly good fortune to see Les Coquettes' Candy Hearts Valentine's Show! It. Was. Amazing! Seriously amazing. I love Toronto's burlesque scene!

My head was full of drawings by the end of the evening. I've barely begun sketching the girls (and Man-props) but I'm trying to get all the ideas down on paper. Here are just a few.
Comic book convention season is starting up soon so I've also been drawing superheroine pin-ups. I'll be at Wizard World Toronto March 18th to the 20th. I'm aiming to have quite a few drawings available for sale and will most likely be doing commissions while at my table.

It's a New Year!

I hope everyone had a great holiday and Happy New Year! I might have had too many late nights and need time to recover. I'm not one for resolutions really, but I did have some 2010 Revelations. One revelation was that I need to work harder and draw more in this new year!

Today's drawing is from a drawing session at Dr. Sketchy's with model Billie Black! Billie is amazing to draw! I want to turn every pose into a finished piece -- and I will do what I can to achieve that goal. This is the first.

Happy New Year!

Twelve Days of Awesome!

Looking for the perfect Christmas/Holiday gift to give your comic book loving loved one? How about the gift of Artwork! Over at Darwyn Cooke's "Almost Darwyn Cooke's Blog" Darwyn has just announced a charity auction he's running, along with his lovely wife Marsha, over the next twelve days. I love Darwyn's artwork, and he's told me of a few pieces (cover recreations) that I'm probably going to want to bid on myself.
All of the proceeds from the auction will be given to the Hero Initiative!

Also, if you're in a gift buying mood, now is a good time for me to mention that a collection of my Horoscope pin-ups is available from Lulu Press. It includes all 24 male and female versions of my Signs of the Zodiac pin-ups!
Click here or the link on the sidebar for a preview! I have my copy and I'm thrilled with the way the book turned out. :)

Happy Halloween!

My brother asked me to design a tattoo for him -- two actually. A devil and an angel. This is the devil.
