Adventures of Solar Stella!

Like a lemon meringue pie comes Solar Sella, the final installment in my Women in Space triptych. I had planned to scan in some Stella pages just to show you all exactly who this gal is...unfortunately I can't find a copy of the book in my house. There must me one somewhere. I had a box of about ten of them at one point. When I find a copy I'll make sure to upload a few pages to this very blog.

And here they all are, together for the first time (here anyway). I placed Barbarella in the fore because she's really the first one.
In work news, I'm currently inking my final issue of the Spirit. It's a little bittersweet, working on this one. I'm happy to be at the end but sad that I won't be working with my good buddy, Darwyn, anymore. Not that we won't be doing other work together in the future (quite possibly the very near future ;) but it won't be the monthly team-up I've enjoyed this past year.
I've also been drawing and colouring covers for a new Super Friends book aimed at younger readers. Just as soon as I'm allowed to I'll post a few of the covers here. I absolutely love drawing DC's finest and can't wait to show you all my work.
best,
j.

mmm. New Stella is yummy!

And the new fangled Photoshop colouring just compliments the sleekness of your lines, more so than the watercoloured Stella's of yore.

Lovely space girls...and is good to hear that you´re doing cobers for the Uuper friends comic book...any chance you do the interiors too?

Best,
Marcelo

Dominic - Thanks, man.

ADC - And also thanks. I was actually looking at the colour Stella story with pin-ups and foudn I was too embarassed about them to post them here. My watercolour skills are poor to say the least. :)

Marcelo - No interiors on the Super Friends, yet, Marcelo. I think I'd like to eventually, especially as they expand the character line.

Congrats on wrapping your SPIRIT run, J. It's been a real pleasure to read and I look forward to revisiting them in the future. As for Stella, her lemony outfit is very cute. Lemme know if you're desperate for scans from her mag. ;)

I can't wait to see those Super Friends covers! I got the Batman and Superman toys and they are insanely cute. Any luck finding that Aquaman? I haven't been able to find him anywhere.

I'm looking forward to this week's Spirit...but not the last issue because that will make me sad. You should be very proud of the work you did, though!

Is there still going to be a new issue of New Frontier to tie in w/ the release of the dvd? I'm hoping that that's the work w/ Darwyn you're referring too. -ap

Jon - Many thanks. Especially for the offer of scans. I know I've got an issue around here someowhere...I just need to dig out my comic boxes. I also have the original art which I could and should scan just for posterity.

Rachelle - No Aquaman yet. I have Batman, though. And I'm working on drawing more of my favourite characters in the same style...are you ready for Metamorpho and the Doom Patrol?!

Anonymous - I try very hard to never count my chickens but my answer to you is "Maybe"

:)

I always loved Stella. Nice to see her make a return of sorts. Wish we'd see more of her adventures. I dug the watercoloured version but then I'm no artist. You have come a long ways since those early days.

Duuuude....I need a print of that drawing with the 3 lovely space-ladies. NOW!

And I'm betting I'm not the only one wanting it framed and on my wall...

Jon - As of November 24th 10pm you've just been hit :) A Cliff sketch just went up.

Don - Thanks, man. I'm seriously considering putting together a Stella online thing. I've got that other whole issue drawn plus the old stuff I could scan and colour. Won't be until later in the new year, though.

Mike - Thanks. If only I knew someone with a printer and archival ink...hmmm... :)

Wonderful!

And I'm with Don it's so great to see Solar Stella again! You were so kind once to send me a drawing of that gal and I've had her hanging on my wall ever since! Thanks for the amazing work you do! And for inspiring a young artist all those years ago!

Becca - Hi! If you are who I think you are you also sent me an original drawing! Or you were the only person to send me a Stella Costume design on the page provided by the activity section of my book :)

Nice to see you're keeping up the art. Best of luck! It can be a tough industry but so rewarding.

best,
j.

Yep that was me I sent the drawing. Can't believe I was the only one to do so!

Thanks so much for the kind words! Keeping on rocking!
